I choose a port number in the unassigned range 54840 and it does not work. If I don't change the port I can remote desktop to my windows 7 machine. I am doing it on a subnet using 192.168.1.51. With the listening port unchanged everything OK. With the port change 192.168.1.51:54840 I get "computer can not connect to remote computer".
And change the PortNumber DWORD to an alternate port, or create multiple entries, e.g. RDP-Tcp-01,02,etc, with the same information and each a different port number which results in multiple listening ports as well as the original default 3389.
I have already set the firewall to allow the new port number and reboot the computer. I can't use the new port no. to connect but the port 3389 is still working. Seems the solution is not working for Win 8.
