Retail was a lot more regional. Target hadn't come into the area yet, but I saw a lot of Richways and Roses. Rich's was the end-all be-all department store to many locals (and deserved it back then). And I was really confused because apparently Macys in the area used to be Davidsons and a lot of locals still called it by its old name.
The big ad that year was for Mayer and Berkeley--'This diamond ring'--oh--everybody got engaged---it was what you lived to do. ROFLMAO---I didn't and am very glad I didn't do that. Bought a ring a few years ago--had some stones reset and Jeff at Alexander's at Toco Hill designed my perfect ring.
