VTV3 is a state-owned Vietnamese television channel owned by the Vietnam Television, launched officially on 31 March 1996.As the country's first ever sports and entertainment dedicated channel, it broadcasts sporting events and entertainment-oriented programs including music, game shows, leisure & lifestyles, nationally produced, as well as American and Asian series.
VTV1 is a state-owned Vietnamese-language news channel and also the first television channel of Vietnam Television Station, and the third channel of VTV to broadcast HD, broadcast continuously with a duration of 24/7, with nearly 20 news bulletins and dozens of weekly columns, referring to current political issues of the country.
In 2016, this channel, together with VTV Da Nang and VTV Phu Yen, merged to create the new VTV8 for the Central and Highlands central region. VTV Can Tho 1 Regional channel for viewers in the Southwestern of Vietnam. The studio is located in Can Tho city. Later, this channel merged with the Southeastern (HCMC) region center (VTV9) in 2016.
Starting on 20 September 2007, VTV launched the first prime time slot for Vietnamese dramas. These dramas air from 21:10 to 22:00, Monday to Friday on VTV1. Note: Cỏ lông chông airs in prime time but not officially prime time slot for only Vietnamese dramas. The drama was followed by Korean period drama Jumong from 7 March to 19 September.
