There have been three instances where I observed on the GrubHub map my driver go in the opposite direction of the restaurant or pick up my order and drive to another far away location first when they could have stopped at my place first. In these instances my food was, on average, between 20 - 30 minutes late.

I'm a driver and have been for 5 years. I drive for Most platforms. I also order food. If somebody texts me and asks me to add an additional tip, Not only would I not add the tip but I would be on the porch.Ready to confront that driver and tell him what a piece of c***They are to text customers for tips. I might even punch him in their mouth.
GrubHub was amazing in 2020 when COVID lockdowns first started. Now? I don’t even bother starting the GrubHub Driver app. The pay is simply one of the worst out of all the gig apps. I don’t have an estimate of earnings, but 2020 was a great year for gig work. Almost all of the gig apps have gone downhill, but GrubHub is now one of the worst.
At least in my area it's raining so there's less drivers on the road but way more orders, sometimes it just takes a minute for a driver to become available. If you tip under 4 dollars though that will definitely affect how long the order will take, since we're private contractors so we have the right to decline low paying orders, so grubhub ...
GrubHub used to be my go to App in California for exactly what you say. But in California voters passed Prop-22 which forced delivery apps to pay minimum wage plus 20% to all drivers & .30 cents per mile. When this happened, GrubHub started a “No Tip” policy in the app recommending customers not to pay tips.
