[2] This tour had 8 legs around the world lasting more than 20 months starting on 26 October 2008 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and finishing on 28 June 2010 in Bilbao, Spain .
The album was recorded during AC/DC's Black Ice World Tour on 4 December 2009 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. Video footage from the same concert was previously officially released in May 2011 on DVD and Blu-ray as Live at River Plate. This is the band's final release to feature original rhythm guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young before his retirement in 2014 due to poor health.
Black Ice was released exclusively in physical formats, as the group did not sell its music digitally at the time. Wal-Mart got exclusive rights to distribute the album in North America. Its release was promoted with an extensive marketing campaign, which included displays of AC/DC memorabilia.
