This was designed to fill some major fundamental flaws the Internet Archive has been lacking in. One major problem is, that the IA, using keyword search on their main site you have to make it go to a specific collection rather than the whole Wayback machine. Another problem is for search, the IA is based out of SF.

It let users watch/archive specific users. They had a good amount of data and a nice UI. Dunno if theyre shut down forever or the downtime is just temporary. As of December 2020, the Wayback Machine contains over 70 petabytes of data. It's absolutely enormous. Apparently, there are around 800,000 YouTube videos archived on there. Many of these videos are no longer available on the actual site, and the Wayback Machine is often the only place they even exist anymore.
archive.today has multiple domains and it randomly transfers you to whichwever one. They own archive.today (which is their main name), then they have archive.ph, archive.li, archive.vn, and a couple others i cant remember but they have all sorts of domains and their owner is anonymous but every domain name is registered under a "Denis Petrov" which is sort of an east European version of john doe.
