The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality ( Zulu: UMasipala weDolobhakazi laseThekwini) is a metropolitan municipality, created in 2000, that includes the city of Durban and surrounding towns. eThekwini is one of the 11 districts of the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. As of 2011, the majority of its 3,442,361 inhabitants spoke isiZulu .
Durban is the seat of the larger eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which spans an area of 2,556 km 2 (987 sq mi) and had a population of 4.2 million in 2022, [3] making the metropolitan population one of Africa's largest on the Indian Ocean. Within the city limits, Durban's population was 595,061 in 2011. [2]
D'MOSS is managed by the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, the metropolitan body that oversees the greater Durban area.
