    The NHC 250’s have become sort of infamous for cavitation caused liner failure. We saw some pitting damage in two motors but none on the third. Chasing cavitation issues was a red herring for us, it distracted me from what I was doing that was actually killing them.

    No, It is a diesel, the multis were in the older 5 tons known as the G-744 series mostly known as older 5 tons with the multis to me, and deuces of course they had 2 types the first the 427 then the replacement the 465 this is the motor found in the older 5 tons they were basicaly the very same motor, not a cummins in the lot...the M-8 series ...

    Cummins NHC-250 Problems. I have a M813A1 and love the big Cummins. You need good batteries to turn it over, and I would recommend you put a block heater in it, if it doesn't already have one. (Miine didn't but does now). I did have an alternator problem, and had to replace the same, when it couldn't be rebuilt.

    When adding a turbo to a NHC 250, you need to do 3 things. 1. Retard the timing. Stock timing is (0.2032) piston and (0.0290) push tube. Set it to (0.2032) and (0.036). This timing is for a stock NTC 290 S.C.. 2. Order a Cummins 855 S.C. camshaft part # 3023229 or 3023177. This is the 290 SC camshaft.

    I have converted a couple of NH250s to spin-on. On mine I did not see an increase in oil pressure. Oil pressure was 90 cold and 45 hot both before and after. Presumably my canister filters were not as restricted as yours. The trucks I converted have ran 10,000miles and 7,000miles after being converted to spin on.
