My Honda generator EG 4000 stopped making current. I am bringing it to get tested on Monday. To see what is the issue. This means, depending on what is wrong, I may not fix it. Due to its age, might be better off replacing it. Predator generators claim to be comparable with Honda.

Honda has a fuel shut off that activates at key off (I think it grounds that solenoid when the generator is still spinning) which activates a plunger that shuts off fuel to the main jet.
Anyway, it took an hour of removing panels and a leaf blower to remove to remove it all. I also had to use a fine pick to remove a few pieces of insulation from inside the alternator. The generator is sealed up pretty good. The only weak spot is that oil drain at the bottom of the housing. It's a quarter sized, tight fitting rubber stopper.

So the generator's starter motor needs to apply 0.16 HP, or 122 watts, to the engine. At 12 volts that's 10 amps. If the starter is 50% efficient, the battery has to supply 20 amps. Connecting the battery with two feet of #10 wire ought to be plenty adequate. # 12 ought to be OK. If the starter binds, and the battery runs up to its max current ...

Ran this generator for three days off propane with great results. 20lb tank ran almost 20 hours with two lights, refrigerator and tank less water heater. On sale now at Home Depot for $399.00.
